| May Day Basket |
See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth, the season of singing has come! Song of Solomon 2:11-12
When I was a young child, my mother and I would make up little May Day baskets on May 1st. We would pick some flowers out of the garden and put them in the baskets.
The baskets we used to make were cone-shaped and made of construction paper. We decorated the basket and a handle for hanging it on the door knob. We would go around to our neighbor's houses and put them on the doors without letting them know we were there. It was all done so secretively. I wondered what would they think when they would come home to find such a pretty bouquet of spring flowers, and they didn't even know where it came from? Such a sweet, happy memory!
I'm not sure that we go around our neighborhoods and visit with people, like we used to. Our busy lives and hectic schedules don't allow us the time to communicate and to be good neighbors. Perhaps this would be a simple way to make someone else's day more brighter today? Give someone a May Day basket with some flowers.
Here is a little flower basket that you can click on and download (below). Print it out and glue it on some card stock, before cutting the design out. Fill them with some flowers, or make paper flowers, and place them at your neighbor's door.
